Nematool

The digital tool to manage nematodes in outdoor and greenhouse crops.

An easy-to-use digital solution for nematode control

Nematool is the combination of an autonomous probe for soil temperature that sends this information to a server where it is processed by specific algorithms (models), and a web application that allows farmers to visualize processed data and recommendations for better nematode management.

Nematool in detail

Nematool provides us with information on soil temperatures and, through the application of models, information on the evolution of nematode generations or solarization processes.

Nematode Model

Based on accumulated degree technology, it informs about the evolution of the nematode cycle, defining recommendations for the use of ovicidal nematicides (BioAct Prime) and larvicides (Velum Prime and the new Velsinum). The base model targets the main species of Meloidogyne that attack crops. As a novelty, in the case of strawberries, a submodel more adjusted to M. hapla has been developed.

Solarization Model

Solarization allows generating lethal temperatures for harmful soil organisms (nematodes and also soil diseases, weeds, etc.). The Nematool solarization model allows us to monitor the solarization process in real-time, providing indications about its quality and optimizing the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if the sensor is working correctly?

The device is activated by moving the magnet towards the mark located in the middle of the device body (yellow dot) until you hear 3 beeps, and then remove the magnet.

Next, the device will emit another 3 short beeps indicating it has turned on. The LED light blinks blue while searching for network and connection and blinks green once connected, then turns off. Once you have the device linked to the mobile app/created field, a 'sensor active' indication will appear on the screen (minutes after its creation).

What to do if I lose the on/off magnet?
If the magnet is lost, you will not be able to turn the Nematool on or off. It can be replaced with magnets you acquire locally, but try not to lose it.
How resistant is Nematool to field conditions?
Nematool V3 is designed to withstand very adverse environmental conditions (-20/70 ºC). Its case is prepared to maintain the watertightness of its interior (joint with anti-vandal screws). IP 67 protection level (waterproof). But remember to avoid hitting it or forcing the rod violently into the ground. The temperature sensor is located at the tip of the metal rod, so we recommend touching it as little as possible. Avoid storage in extreme conditions.
Does the sensor work without network coverage?
No. Make sure to place the sensor in an area with good network coverage, otherwise, the device will not work correctly. Also, if you place Nematool in an area with poor connectivity, or it is intermittent, the battery life may be significantly reduced.
Can I start the models at any time?
No: You must start the 'nematodes' model immediately after transplanting. If the installation is after planting, this leads to deviations in the model calculations. This problem can be mitigated using the 'Settings' button (…) in the App - 'Interpolated temperature data' where you can select the number of days elapsed, up to a maximum of 10. Through an interpolation method, the device will adjust the model calculation. In late activations of the solarization model, this functionality can also be used.
The model does not advance. Doesn't it work?
The 'Nematodes' model does not evolve if temperatures are below or above the nematode development thresholds. In the solarization model, no progress is made if the soil temperature is below 38ºC.
When should I stop the model?
At the end of the crop or end of solarization (remove the plastic). Do not stop the model during the cycle as you will lose the continuity of the cycle.
What happens if I need to replace the sensor during the crop cycle?
If you need to replace one device with another in a field, to not interrupt the model calculations, you must use the mobile App. Once the new sensor is placed, enter the specific 'field' and from the menu button in the mobile App select the "Update sensor" option. Scan the QR code on the top of the device and you will have the field associated with the new device.
What to do when a device breaks or reaches the end of its useful life?
Nematool is an electronic device that must be disposed of at a 'green point' at the end of its useful life. Confirm with your distributor if you can extend the life of the device (battery, license). It is a viable option if a new device is not acquired.
